Alternative Mounting Systems Available for Car GPS

Sunday May 25, 2008

There are drawbacks to the standard windshield suction-cup mounting systems for car GPS units. Depending on your windshield and dashboard configuration, they can place the GPS out of reach, or make it difficult to see. Also, windshield mounts are illegal in California and Minnesota. I recently received a box of alternative mounts for review from Arkon Resources, Inc. This company takes gadget mounts seriously, with hundreds of models for GPS, cell phones, smart phones, satellite radios and more. A few caught my attention, including the cup-holder mount shown in the photo above, as well as mounts that fit into air vents, weighted dashboard mounts, and bolted-on metallic flex-arm mounts. Watch for road tests here soon, and you can check them out meanwhile at Arkon.com.
