Find and Phone Addresses to Your GPS with Dash and Tellme

Wednesday September 10, 2008

It just got easier to send information to the Dash Express car GPS with the addition of voice search and entry services via phone, Dash announced today. Dash has partnered with Tellme and Dial Directions to link their services to the Dash GPS.

Here’s how it works: If you already own a Dash GPS, go to Dash.net and register the phone number you wish to use. That’s all of the setup that’s required. The service is included as part of your Dash subscription.

Next, simply call voice services company Tellme at 1-800-CALL-411 (1-800-225-5411) and search for businesses, by name or by category, anywhere in the U.S. using only your voice. When you’re satisfied with your voice search result, the business name, street address and phone number will be sent immediately and wirelessly to your Dash device, arriving in a few seconds. You may then instruct the Dash to provide you with its normal turn-by-turn text-to-speech directions to go to your new destination.

Tellme is a Microsoft subsidiary. “This support for Dash is our first move to connect with devices beyond the phone,” said Dariusz Paczuski, senior director of Tellme Consumer Services. “It’s a natural fit for the Tellme service.”

If you already know your destination address, you may send it to your Dash with a phone call via a separate service called Dial Directions. Call 1-DIAL DIRECTIONS (1-347-328-4667) to use this service.

Dash is the first partner for these services, but we’ll likely see them added to wireless GPS services offered by other GPS makers soon.
