Garmin Software Update Improves G5 Golf GPS
Tuesday April 21, 2009
Garmin recently released a software update for its Approach G5 golf GPS unit that takes care of a problem I pointed out in my review of the G5, and adds a few new features. The new software, version 2.20 (upgrades from 2.10), improves touch targeting stability. I found the touch targeting (dragging a small circle on the touchscreen with your finger to provide yardages) of the original to be jumpy and difficult to position. After downloading and installing 2.20, I detected a noticeable improvement in stability. Thanks for that one, Garmin. The software upgrade also added the ability to zoom in (one level) while in the touch targeting mode, a handy feature. Finally, the upgrade added the ability to calibrate the touch screen. To determine the software version of an Approach G5, touch the wrench icon in the lower right, then the "about" icon. To download and install the free software upgrade, use Garmin's free WebUpdater software. WebUpdater is a no-hassle way to check, download, and install updates to most Garmin devices. Image © Garmin
