Garmin has expanded its large Forerunner GPS sports watch model line with a new 910XT model. This watch has a completely new form compared to the previous generation of round-dial Forerunners. This shape gives the Forerunner 910XT more screen real estate: a 1.3" x 0.8" display size, vs. a 1" diameter display on the Forerunner 610. Another key difference setting the 910XT apart is swim metrics. This sports GPS watch is rated waterproof to 50 meters, and is Garmin's first model to include swim distance, stroke identification, stroke count, and pool lengths. It also automatically calculates a swimming efficiency score. This is a natural for triathletes, but may be of interest to any water sports enthusiast. Like other Garmin sport watches, the Forerunner 910XT is GPS-enabled, so it captures all tracks, including swim tracks for analysis and upload to the free Garmin Connect online service. The new watch also has bike and run modes, with deeply customizable displays for those sports as well. The 910XT is also ANT+ compatible for wireless connection to heart rate monitors and power meters. The Forerunner 910XT is to become available in the fourth quarter of 2011, and lists for $399 without wireless heart rate monitor strap, and $449 with heart rate strap. Image © Garmin
