I'm a fan of car mounts for use with smartphone navigation apps. Car mounts hold the phone onto the windshield, much like a dedicated GPS; charge your phone, and boost the speaker for easier-to-hear directions. TomTom has long offered a smartphone mount, but the company takes everything up a notch with soon-to-be-released models for iPhone and Android smartphones. The new TomTom Car Kit "features an advanced noise and echo cancellation system, which dramatically reduces background noise for the caller and removes ambient noise for the driver," states TomTom. A new mounting system accommodates phone covers. A "universal" mode means the mount can adapt to any new mounting pin configurations coming up for iPhone or Android. A large microphone picks up your voice better, and Bluetooth gives you hands-free calling capability. No word yet on price or release date. Image © TomTom
