Magellan's New SmartGPS System Syncs in the Cloud

Integrated. Dynamic. Social. Synced in the cloud: These are the trends in GPS navigation and location services. Magellan has just announced a new SmartGPS system that will include a smartphone app (in iOS and Android OS versions) that shares data and updates with a Magellan dedicated car GPS navigation device, as well as with other devices, such as desktop computers and iPads. "The Magellan SmartGPS mobile apps display location-relevant information "squares" that graphically flip to show reviews, tips and offers from Yelp and Foursquare for nearby restaurants, stores and services," states Magellan. Connected services (on the smartphone and Magellan windshield-mount car GPS) will include real-time access to Yelp and FourSquare, wireless sync (research and send destinations from your computer to your car GPS, for example), real-time fuel prices, traffic alerts, red-light cameras, parking spots, weather, and more.
