Questions and some confusion about GPS options for the iPad 2, iPod Touch, and other Apple iOS devices persist. There are multiple ways to get location data working on your Apple device, and I explore the options for iPad in my stories iPad 2 GPS: Quick Guide and Capabilities, and iPad 2 GPS and Location Services. I've also covered how to add GPS to your iPod Touch.

Aftermarket products are beginning to add more GPS options for the iPad 2 and other iOS devices. An increasingly popular option is the Dual XGPS150 Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver (shown here). The high-sentitivity Dual XGPS150 provides GPS data to your iPad, iPod Touch, or other iOS device via wireless Bluetooth, so it does not take up the Apple connector. Users are also commending the Dual XGPS150 for its ability to get a quick and strong GPS satellite fix, and the fact that it does not drain your Apple device battery to run GPS, since it relies on its own USB-rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The XGPS150 comes with a free app that provides a satellite signal strength display, and location, connectivity, and battery level information.

Another option, the Bad Elf GPS Receiver, plugs directly into the Apple dock connector to provide GPS data to iPad, iPad 2, iPod Touch, and other iOS devices. Neither of these devices require you to "jailbreak" or otherwise compromise your Apple device. They work with existing Apple hardware and operating systems.
