The iPhone by itself stands out as one of the best smartphones around. With accessories? It's outstanding.

Since the iPhone supports common standards like Bluetooth and Qi wireless charging, there's no shortage of accessories that can be used for things like listening to audio and recharging your device. Not all accessories are created equally; you'll usually get the best experience from those explicitly designed with the iPhone in mind.

Best Wireless Headphones

Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation)

Apple AirPods Pro

Amazon

What We Like
  • Works seamlessly with iPhone

  • Great Siri integration

  • Excellent battery life

What We Don't Like
  • Slow wireless charging

  • Volume control is voice-only

Although you can use any Bluetooth earbuds with your iPhone, it takes work to beat the seamless integration of Apple's AirPods Pro (2nd generation). These true wireless earbuds provide solid sound while also unlocking many other features, ranging from activating Siri with a simple voice command to having your incoming messages automatically read to you while you're on the go.

Better yet, they're not only effortless to pair with your iPhone—hold them nearby, open the case, and follow the prompts—but once you've paired them with your iPhone, they'll automatically sync via iCloud and pair up with your iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, or even your Apple TV. Everything works, and you can seamlessly switch between devices; your AirPods Pro will automatically connect wherever you begin playing audio.

You can also call out "Hey Siri" while wearing your AirPods to bring up the voice assistant to listen to music or podcasts, check messages, set reminders, or even control your home accessories without your iPhone. Plus, if you have a friend who also owns a set of AirPods or Beats headphones, you can easily link them up wirelessly and let them listen along to your favorite tunes on Apple Music and Spotify. Best of all, you'll get up to six hours of listening time from the earbuds on a single charge, plus up to 30 hours more by popping them back into the case to juice them back up again.

The 2nd gen AirPods Pro earbuds have active noise cancellation to filter out environmental sounds that interfere with your music or podcast. They also have adaptive transparency, letting some sound in so you can stay aware of your surroundings, an excellent feature if you're out walking.

Apple includes a MagSafe Charging Case with a built-in speaker and lanyard loop in the box.

JBL Charge 4

Amazon JBL Charge 4 - Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Black

Amazon

What We Like
  • Powerful, clear sound

  • Highly durable

  • Long battery life

What We Don't Like
  • No speakerphone functionality

  • Can't be wall-mounted

Whether listening to smooth jams at home or livening things up at a beach party, JBL’s Charge 4 leads the pack among portable Bluetooth speakers for iPhone users. With a great combination of sound, durability, strong wireless performance, and price, it’s hard to beat.

With rugged construction and an IPX7 waterproof rating, you can take the JBL Charge 4 anywhere without worrying about rain, splashes, or even dropping it into the pool. It’s designed to float, so you can easily retrieve it even if it goes off the edge of your boat. The single full-range driver gets surprisingly loud and keeps the sound crisp, clean, and distortion-free, even at the top volume.

The 7,500mAh battery offers up to 20 hours of listening on a single charge, and thanks to its USB port, it can also use some of that battery power to charge your iPhone. While the Charge 4 only packs in a single driver, you can link up another JBL speaker for a proper stereo soundstage or even use the built-in JBL Connect+ feature to link up to 100 more JBL speakers to sync up and play the same songs.

Walmart

What We Like
  • Available in a wide variety of fun designs

  • Works with any iPhone

  • Reusable adhesive

What We Don't Like
  • Complicates wireless charging

You can buy grippy iPhone cases, but if you want to ensure you have a good handle on your expensive iPhone, nothing beats a PopSocket. These inexpensive little add-ons stick right on the back of your iPhone, letting you pop them out to wrap your fingers around the base and keep a hold on your iPhone.

When not in use, the PopSocket flattens as much as possible to stay out of the way. While it obviously can’t disappear entirely, it won’t interfere with laying your iPhone down on a flat surface or even sliding it into a pocket in your skinny jeans. To enjoy the benefits of wireless charging, you must place your PopSocket toward the top or bottom of your iPhone, avoid the central Qi wireless charging zone, or pick up PopSocket's specially designed wireless charger.

There’s much more to a PopSocket than simply holding on to your iPhone. It can also double as a stand when extended, letting you prop up your iPhone to watch videos, take photos, or even hang it off the edge of a cup or a glass. The reusable adhesive lets you easily remove your PopSocket if you upgrade your iPhone or want to position it differently. PopSockets are available in hundreds of patterns and designs, so you can easily find one to match your style.

Best Wireless Keyboard

Logitech Keys-to-Go

Logitech Keys-to-Go Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard

Logitech

What We Like
  • Great battery life

  • Available in fun colors

  • Includes iPhone stand

What We Don't Like
  • Not pocketable

Although most iPhone users aren't setting out to write the great American novel on their mobile devices, there are times when the touchscreen keyboard just doesn't cut it. That's where Logitech's Keys-to-Go comes in. It's a Bluetooth keyboard designed with iPhone users in mind that balances usability and portability while adding a nice dose of whimsy, thanks to multiple fun colors.

Logitech's long history with keyboards allows it to bring that expertise to bear in designing Keys-to-Go. With responsible and tactile keys, it offers one of the best typing experiences in a keyboard in its class. Plus, it will last up to three months on a single charge, and it's even protected against dust and spills.

While Keys-to-Go is far from pocketable, it's small and sturdy enough to fit into a tote bag or purse. Unlike many smaller foldable keyboards, Keys-to-Go provides properly spaced keys that are comfortable and allow for accurate touch typing. Logitech even includes a stand for propping up your iPhone. While Keys-to-Go is aimed at iPhone users, it's ultimately just a Bluetooth keyboard, which means you can pair it with an iPad, Apple TV, or any other Bluetooth-capable device.

Best Wireless Charger

Apple MagSafe Charger

Apple MagSafe Charger

Amazon

What We Like
  • Fast 15W Charging

  • Hassle-free attachment and removal

What We Don't Like
  • Pricey

  • Doesn't include power adapter

Although Qi wireless chargers are everywhere these days, if you have an iPhone 12 or later, you'll be doing yourself a disservice by not getting Apple's MagSafe Charger. This handy little charger is designed to attach magnetically to any of these more recent models, and it also provides your iPhone with twice the charging speed of any standard Qi charger.

Since the release of Apple's iPhone 12 lineup, many chargers have appeared that will magnetically attach to iPhones. However, only those certified for Apple's MagSafe technology offer faster charging. MagSafe accomplishes this by ensuring that the charging coil is always perfectly aligned with the iPhone, guaranteeing maximum 15W charging speeds without excessive power waste from not having everything lined up correctly.

The Apple MagSafe Charger works like a 7.5W Qi wireless charger for non-MagSafe devices. So, even if you don't have one of the latest iPhones, you can still use it for any iPhone that supports wireless charging, so you'll be good back to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and original iPhone X.

  • Fast 15W MagSafe charging

  • Base charges AirPods, Apple Watch, and iPhones

  • Includes power adapter

What We Don't Like
  • Pricey

  • Not compatible with older models

There’s no doubt that Apple’s MagSafe technology is the very best way to charge any of its current iPhone models wirelessly, so if you’re looking for a single charging stand that can also handle your Apple Watch and your AirPods, Belkin’s MagSafe 3-in-1 charger is easily worth the splurge. Not only does it pack in the latest iPhone charging technology, but it also adds an elegant flair to your bedside table.

The built-in MagSafe charger will suspend your iPhone up where you can see it while also providing an unparalleled 15 watts of wireless charging power. To the right of the MagSafe disc is a place to charge your Apple Watch, plus the base includes a standard 5W Qi charger designed to charge your AirPods or AirPods Pro. Although other stands will magnetically hold your iPhone, only MagSafe-certified chargers like Belkin’s can provide the full 15-watt charging speeds.

Unlike Apple’s MagSafe chargers, Belkin’s stand also includes the power adapter, guaranteeing you’ll get the fastest possible charging speeds for all your attached devices.

Whether you travel once a month or once a year, a portable charger is an essential accessory for your phone—or any mobile USB-charged device. This is an ultra-competitive space, but Anker makes some of the best chargers and external batteries on the market.

The Anker 335 Power Bank (PowerCore 20K) 20W Portable Charger can charge an iPhone 13 just over four times, and with three USB charging ports (2 USB-A, 1 USB-C), you can simultaneously juice up your iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods. With built-in surge and short circuit protection, the power bank ensures your gadgets get the safest charge.

What to Look For in an iPhone Accessory

Compatibility: iPhone owners enjoy fairly universal accessory compatibility since Apple makes every iPhone. Every iPhone made since 2012 uses Apple’s standard Lightning connector, and every iPhone made since 2017 supports Qi wireless charging. Bluetooth has also been available on the iPhone since 2009. Hence, most compatibility issues are confined to products like cases and mounts, which must account for physical differences between iPhone models. If you’re buying a more advanced, app-based accessory for an older iPhone, however, you’ll want to ensure that it supports the latest iOS version that your iPhone can run. Since Apple generally provides iOS updates for each iPhone generation for 4–5 years, this isn’t likely a problem unless you use a much older model.

Certification: Apple’s Made-for-Phone program must certify certain accessories to guarantee proper operation. This includes MagSafe chargers for the iPhone 12 and later and advanced accessories that plug into the Lightning port. Always look for the “Made for iPhone” logo when shopping for these accessories. Fortunately, standard wired and wireless chargers aren’t part of this, although you should still ensure they’re from reputable sources. In particular, the Wireless Power Consortium should certify Qi wireless chargers.

Plan Ahead: Even if you aren’t yet toting the latest iPhone model, it’s worth looking at what kind of new technologies it offers and considering those when buying certain accessories. For example, the iPhone 12 introduced MagSafe charging technology. Still, since all MagSafe chargers can also be used with older iPhones, you can buy one for your older iPhone, and you’ll have it when you eventually upgrade to a newer model.

FAQ
  • What accessories does the iPhone come with?

Beginning with the release of the iPhone 12 lineup in late 2020, Apple has stopped including a power adapter and wired EarPods headphones in the iPhone box. This applies retroactively to every iPhone that Apple sells, including the second-generation iPhone SE, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11. Besides a quick start guide and an Apple sticker, the only accessory you’ll find in an iPhone box now is a USB-C to Lightning cable, which you’ll need to supply a USB-C power adapter.

  • Which iPhone models support wireless charging?

Apple added standard Qi wireless charging to the iPhone with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X released in 2017. Every iPhone released by Apple since then includes support for standard Qi wireless charging at rates of up to 7.5 watts, regardless of whether you’re using a faster Qi charger. 15-watt wireless charging is supported on the iPhone 12 and later models with an Apple-certified MagSafe adapter.

  • Can I use a MagSafe charger with older iPhones?

Yes. Apple’s MagSafe technology is backward-compatible with the standard Qi wireless charging specification, so you can charge any iPhone or other Qi-compatible wireless device using a MagSafe charger. However, you’ll be limited to the slower 7.5-watt charging speeds. Note that older iPhones also won’t attach magnetically to a MagSafe charger.
