Hands-free Calling, Fuel Prices, Connect and Control an iPod
You expect good hands-free calling functionality when you buy a high-end GPS navigator, and you get it with the GO 930. It took a few tries, but I was able to do the initial sync-up of my phone via Bluetooth, and the phone now syncs automatically when I hop in my car. The GO 930 imports your address book (if you permit it) and provides touchscreen access. The microphone is sensitive enough for true hands-free utility, and the speaker has adequate volume, although you can port to external speakers, as well.
The GO 930 comes with the ability to use free and paid TomTom Services, including minor map updates, some voices, safety (speeding) camera location updates (not available in the US or Canada), and more (see link below). I have posted a separate and detailed story on the TomTom Fuel Prices feature.
Traffic tracking and avoidance is available with an optional RDS-TMC receiver or phone data link and a subscription to TomTom Traffic.
The GO 930 can play mp3 audio files, show pictures, and play Audible audio books.
You may also connect your iPod to the GO 930 with an optional iPod connector cable and control it with the GO 930's touchscreen. The music will play through the GO 930's internal speaker, or through external speakers if selected.
Overall, the GO 930 is a technological tour de force, with some work still needed on the voice input, but with some exciting new and truly useful functionality in the Advanced Lane Guidance and IQ Routes features.
