Guide Review - Zoombak GPS Locator Tracks Your Car, Kids, Pet

If you frequently wonder or worry about the location of one of your vehicles and the passengers in it, the new Zoombak GPS locator may be for you. The Zoombak comes in a pet version, also, and fits into a specially made dog collar.

Zoombak consists of a very light and compact GPS with receiver/transmitter unit, car and home chargers, a car mounting kit, and access to nicely done Web site where you can access location information directly, set up alert zones, and set up alerts to e-mail and mobile phone(s).

After you purchase a Zoombak, you get started by charging up the locator unit, and then creating your Zoombak account ($14.99 per month, or $9.99 per month with 6 months pre-paid) at Zoombak.com and activating the unit.

Once your account is established, you have many setup options via the Web site. You can set multiple "safety zones" in different dimensions (1/4-mile radius, one mile radius, etc.) for different locations, such as your home and your teenager's college campus. You can choose to be notified about zone activity through multiple means. You may also query for a current location via the web or mobile phone. These same options are available with the pet collar version.

You may carry the Zoombak in the passenger compartment and plug it into a standard power port, or you may mount it in the trunk using an included mounting bracket and permanent wiring. Its small size makes it easy to conceal in a trunk. If your vehicle is stolen, Zoombak would let you track its location in real time.

Zoombak is a GPS device, but it must be in range of cellular towers to allow it to communicate (see link to coverage map).

While the Zoombak has plenty of honest and practical uses, there are obviously ethical and legal constraints regarding tracking someone without their knowledge that you must become familiar with before you consider such use.
