A "where am I" safety feature will inform the user of exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations, and gas stations.
Another feature I like on some current Garmin GPS units that will also be built into the nüvifone: when undocked from its car mount, it automatically marks the spot as a waypoint, making it easy to find your car later, especially useful in a big stadium or amusement park lot.
Other features will include:
- Garmin Online, a service that constantly updates to provide real-time traffic conditions, fuel prices, stock prices, sports scores, new, and weather.
- Built-in camera that will "geotag" photos with exact latitude and longitude reference information. Save the image to navigate back to the location, or e-mail the image and location.
- Access geo-located landmark and sightseeing photos through Google Panaramio.
- Built-in video camera and MP3 player.
Garmin anticipates that the nüvifone will be available in the third quarter of 2008. Details about pricing and technology and sales partners are to be announced.
