Geocaching is a popular outdoor adventure game, with more than a million caches currently registered. Most makers of handheld GPS devices have taken steps to make geocaching easier with their devices. But with its eXplorist GC handheld GPS, Magellan takes the concept a step further with a device primarily focused on geocaching, and with direct links to the hobby's main site, geocaching.com.
The eXplorist GC:
- Will sell for $199 when released in early April, 2010.
- Is made for out-of-the-box geocaching.
- Has a bright, color screen.
- Is rugged and waterproof.
- Seamlessly connects to geocaching.com
"Paperless geocaching" means that the eXplorist GC "allows you to download more than 20 unique characteristics of each cache, including name, location, description, hider, size, difficulty, terrain, hint, spoilers, attributes, and last 20 user logs among a number of other details," states Magellan.
The eXplorist GC may also function as a normal handheld GPS, with features such as waypoint creation, a worldwide basemap, active tracking, and trip odometer.
