Magellan's new Maestro Elite 5340 connected navigator (photo at right) features Google Local Search, letting you search the Web for a business in a specific neighborhood, and then route to the location. You may also use Google Local Search to identify and route to local events such as concerts. Through the Maestro Elite 5340's wireless GPRS connection, Magellan will also offer real-time traffic tracking and avoidance, and local weather forecasts. The wireless connection will also make it possible for users to send addresses and notes to the unit wirelessly from a PC. Like other newly introduced models in the Magellan Elite line, the 5340 will provide rendered 3D landmarks and buildings, six million points of interest in its database, and voice command capability. The 5340 also features an extra-wide (5 inches diagonal) touchscreen. "OneTouch" is another new feature built into the 5340 that permits users to set routes, searches, and functions such as the MP3 player as favorites available with just one touch of the screen. When the 5340 is connected to live services via GPRS, OneTouch offers a local Info screen that includes weather, local events, and a list of services. The Maestro Elite 5340 is to be available in the first quarter of 2008 with a suggested retail price of $1,299. New Magellan RoadMate ModelsMagellan will add five new models to its RoadMate series of entry-level in-car vehicle navigation units, including the first 4.3-inch widescreen units from Magellan with prices beginning at $229.
