TeleNav, a powerhouse in mobile phone GPS, traffic information, and other mobile information services, today announced its first, two-way, Internet-connected car GPS device, the TeleNav Shotgun. The new Shotgun looks a lot like other in-car portable GPS devices on the market, with its flat-black finish and 4.3 inch (diagonal) touchscreen. But it includes two-way connectivity via the TeleNav Connected Service, which includes real-time traffic updates and intelligent rerouting; Internet-connected search, online pre-planning which lets you send addresses from the Web to the GPS, and automatic map and points of interest updates. Connected features that are not available yet, but will be rolled out in the future include restaurant reviews, address sharing, weather, and e-mailed alerts about traffic conditions on your commuting route.
The TeleNav Shotgun comes preloaded with 11 million points of interest, one of the largest databases in the industry. The TeleNav Shotgun is available now, selling for $299 including three months of free TeleNav Connected Service. Options for service plans include: 2-year plan: $239 (equivalent to $9.96 per month); 1-year plan: $129 (equivalent to $10.75 per month); month-to-month: $11.99 per month. I've already taken the Shotgun out for a test drive, and it is performing well. Watch for a full review here.
