Garmin Connect, a free online service for uploading, storing, and managing tons of GPS route and workout data, just became even more useful with the introduction of Courses. Here's the scenario: You want to plan and try a new cycling or running route, but you have never been to the new destination. You have a Garmin GPS sports device, and you want to create and upload the route to your device ahead of time. Up until now, this neat trick has been possible only by using one of the non-Garmin online course-creating tools, and then taking several painstaking and technical steps to export the course and import it into your Garmin. Not many bother to try.
That entire process just became very easy with Courses in Garmin Connect. Simply click on the Courses tab, drag the online map to your starting point, then click your way around the course. Save the course, and use the "send to device" feature to upload it to your connected Garmin GPS. I created, saved, and uploaded a 12-mile route to my Garmin Edge 800 in about five minutes. Way to go, Garmin. Image © Garmin
