Google Maps App for iPhone Review - A Good App, With Some Drawbacks

By December 15, 2012

Google Maps App for iPhone ReviewFollowing Apple's missteps with the launch of its new Maps app, which ousted Google's underlying technology, consumers have yearned for the accuracy and power of Google Maps on the iPhone. With its just-launched Maps app for iPhone and iOS6, Google exceeded expectations with an end-of-2012 delivery of a free, fast, lean, and well-done maps app including spoken-street-name, turn-by-turn directions. Given the glowing reviews elsewhere, you might think Google's new Maps app is a slam-dunk choice. But those of us who have been reviewing navigation apps for quite a while noticed a few deficiencies in Google Maps, including lack of integration with Apple Contacts, no Siri compatibility, no route preview and select, no lane guidance, and more. I'm glad Google jumped back in, but the new Google Maps gets only three out of five stars in my Google Maps app for iPhone review. Image Google
